Q:  I forgot my username/password. Can you tell me what it is?
A:  No problem! Just click on Lost  Password, enter your email address that we have on file for you. Our system will instantly send you your correct login information.

Q: Why can't I put my e-mail address in my ad?
A:   At first it might appear that we are trying to limit the number of people who can contact you by not allowing personal information into the text of your ad (e-mail addresses, ICQ numbers, home addresses etc.). But the reality is that we are committed to bringing you as many responses as possible. You see, we have a "guest" search page. If we allowed our members to put their contact information into the text of their ad, then guests would have less incentive to create their own account and ad. Our goal is to bring as many new members as possible. The more members we have, the more likely that you will find the special person you are looking for. Guests are required to create their own ad and membership in order to contact other members. This brings in more members, meaning more members for you to contact and more members who will contact you. Your success if our goal!

Q. Does my private information stay private?
A: Yes! Absolutely! We are 100% committed to your privacy and your anonymity. We never give out your private information (e-mail address, home address etc.) to any other parties. No exceptions. We do not sell your information to any marketers or sales people. And you have total control over what private information you choose to reveal to any other parties. Your safety and security is our primary concern.

Q:  How do I Update My Ad?
A:   To update your profile, just login to your account and click on Change Your Ad. To change your e-mail address, send an e-mail from your new e-mail address. For your security you must include your username, old e-mail address, name, physical address and birth date that ASCN has on file.

Q:  Why doesn’t my profile show up when I search?
A:   If your profile doesn't appear, you might have yourself blocked.  Please go to the main member's page and click on your blocked list on the left side to review the members you have blocked.  If you're in your blocked list just unblock yourself.  If you've already tried this suggestion and still have questions, please contact us and we'll be happy to help you.

If you are not showing up as available for Instant Message, go to the Instant Message Control Center and change your availability to available.

Q: How do I get more responses to my ad?
The easiest way to get more responses to your ad, is to respond to other ads. Sound a bit silly? Well it's not. Imagine if everyone simply placed an ad, and waited for a response. No one would get a response. They would all be waiting... and waiting... Remember all the ads you find online, have a real person behind it - just like you. That person wants a response, just like you do. Don't be shy. No one will be insulted if you reply to their ad. Just the reverse - they will be delighted! Don't worry if the ad isn't exactly what you are looking for. You might be surprised by making contact. The worst that can happen is that you make a new friend.

A Photo is strongly recommended as well. Remember that one of the search options is for ads with photos only. If your ad does not have a photo then you ad will not be listed in those searches. Click here for more information on posting your photo.

Q:  Should I have a photo in my ad?
A:   A photograph is highly recommended. Whether we like it or not, we live in a visually oriented society. A photograph helps put a face with the "words." It helps make you just a bit more real. Also, many people like to browse the ads with photos only. Wouldn't you like your ad to pop up when that happens? We highly recommend a photo. Studies show that ads with photos get as much as TEN TIMES the responses as those without.

Q:  What are the guidelines for posting a photo?
A:   Photos will not appear on the site until they are approved by Member Support. We reserve the right to edit, crop or reject any photos.

The following will be rejected:
Nude, obscene, sexual or otherwise offensive photos.
Cartoon characters and photos of celebrities

HELPFUL PHOTO HINTS: 

DO: Send your best photo. Your photograph will be the first thing other members will see. Make a positive first impression.

DO: Try to find a photograph where you are the subject. A group picture is not the best first impression. Send a picture of you, not one of all your friends.

DON'T: Don't try to show off your big biceps, sexy legs, or cool backgrounds that distract from the real you... Instead try to show off the most important thing, your face. The best photographs are nice portrait shots with nice facial close-ups.
We know that you want to show that neat picture where you are standing in front of Mount Everest, or paddling the white water, or in the crowd at the Boston Marathon, but we suggest that you save those photos for later. Remember, a first impression is important here. Those searching the ads are not that interested in "background." They want to see you. So, save those cool vacation photos for a later time.

DO: Send us a photo with instructions. We'll be happy to crop, edit, shrink, lighten, sharpen or otherwise help you to get your best photo online. If you have trouble accomplishing something on your end, feel free to send it with your instructions. We'll try to help.

Q:  How do I send a photo?
A:  We offer three wasy to send your photo.

Please note: Photos must be in .jpg or .gif format.

Option 1: Upload a Photo

To upload a photo directly from your computer, simply login and click on the photo link to the left. You may then upload the photo directly to our server.

CROP or SHRINK before uploaded. Photos over 100k will be rejected.

Option 2: Email a Photo

Make note of your username. We can not process your photo without proper identification. 

2.Your photo MUST be in .jpg or .gif format. Sorry, we can not process other formats. Please save your photo in .jpg or .gif format before proceeding. (See your graphics program for instructions on how to save your file in .jpg or .gif format. Sorry - there are too many different graphics programs out there for us to help you with this.)

3. Click on the link here to open an email note: Click Here to open an new email note.
(If your browser is not configured properly and you can't open this link, then open your email program and send your photo to: scn7@sound.net)

4. Copy this text into the TEXT/BODY (Not the subject) of your email message.
Copy---> "Here is my photo. Username: USERNAME-HERE"

5. Find the "Attach" or "Insert" tool for your email program. Select your photo file from your hard disk and attach it to your email and send.

6. Send your email.

NOTE: We process over 100 photos per day. We update the ads daily around 3:00 P.M. central time. If you send your photo after 3:00 central time, we'll have your photo online tomorrow.


Option 3: Mail a Photo

Send your best photo to ASCN PHOTOS, BOX 3282, OLATHE KS 66063
We ask for you to include $10.00 if you want us to scan it.
If you want your photo returned include a SASE.
Be sure to put your name and customer ID on the back of the photo!

To have your photo returned to you, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope that is big enough to hold the photos.

Q:  Can I have more than one photo?
A:   Sure. You can have up to three photos in your ad.

Q:  How long will it take for my photo to appear?
A:   Photos submitted by noon each day will generally be online by 4:00 CST. We generally process over 150 photos each day and it can take up to 24 hours for your photo to appear online.

Q: How many members do you have?
A: Good Question! We can't tell you the exact number on this page, but we can tell you that we have over 30,000 current and active members. We know that there are services out there who claim to have more members but, frankly, we believe those claims are deceiving. You see, some services allow members to simply place an ad and disappear - never to return. Should that person count as a member? We don't think so, and we don't participate in such deception. We remove inactive ads daily. We can truthfully tell you that the ads you see here are all placed by active members. When you join you'll find an active and vibrant membership base. Don't be fooled by services who claim some outrageous number of members. If we counted every member who ever placed an ad here we'd claim a membership in the hundreds of thousands. But, we'd rather be honest. Come see for yourself!

Q:  I'm having trouble making my payment. What do I do?
A:   There could be a number of possiblities. And it could be difficult to identify here. 

The most common problem is members using on older out-of-date web browser which doesn't handle SSL encryption.  We have an alternate payment page for those who might be using an older web browser. Try this page. You can also go to Microsoft  to download and updated web browser.  If you are an AOL member, please go to our AOL help page.  If  you still experience problems, please contact us.

A:   Simply login. Then click on "Support", then click on "Cancel" and complete the form.

Q:  When will my billing be stopped?
A:    When you cancel, your billing stops immediately. You will not be billed from that day forward, unless you contact us to re-instate your ASCN subscription.  Your membership will continue until the end of your paid subscription.  If you prefer to cancel early please contact us and request this.  Please note that there are no refunds for early cancellation.

Q:  How do I re-instate my subscription?
A:   Simply contact us. Please include your username and email address that we have on file for you and we’ll help you reinstate your subscription.

Q:  I bought a 3-month subscription and have used only 1 month. Will I be refunded for the remaining 2 months if I cancel?
A:   If you resign after your first month, your subscription will remain active for the remainder of your initial term. You will keep subscription access during this period.  If you would prefer to cancel early please contact us and request this.

Q:  If I cancel, will I still be able to receive and respond to email?
A:   You will be able to send mail for the remainder of your paid term. For example, if you subscribe for one month on August 1st and you resign on August 9th of the same year, you would be able to initiate email correspondence until September 1st.

Q:  Can I still log in if I resign my subscription?
A:     Your membership will continue until the end of your paid subscription. You will be able to login until the last day of your subscription. After that your password and your account will be removed and places in our archives. You can re-instate your account at any time by contacting us.

Q:  What happens to my profile if I cancel?
A:     If you resign your membership, your profile and photos will be processed that day or the following business day you submit your cancellation request.  After your account closes we will continue to keep your ad on file.  If in the future you wish to have your ad reinstated just keep track of your username contact us and we'll get your account back up.  You may need to resubmit your photos after your ad is reinstated.

Q:  Can I save my Username and Password so that I don't have to type it every time to login? 
A:   Yes, on the login screen, type your username and password in and click the Save check box so that it will remember your login information for the future.  This way you can sign on quickly and not have to keep track of your login information.

Note. You must have cookies enabled on your computer to be able to have your password saved.

Q:  If other people use my computer, what should I know about save login info feature?
A:  If multiple people use your computer, be aware that they could use the save login info  feature to access your account.  For your safety, please do not check this box if you use a public computer.

A:  Yes! Absolutely. No other member can see any information about you except what you choose to reveal. We take your privacy and safety seriously. If you do feel that you someone has sent you inappropriate messages either with Instant Messaging or Mail messages, please contact us and report it. Q:  Is it easy to use Instant Messaging?
A:  Yes! To insure that you receive messages, return to the main member's page and click on the Instant Messaging Control panel.  This will tell your computer to check for incoming messages.  

To send a message, click on Who's Online? You can choose to talk to men or women. When you find someone you are interested in talking to, click on the [MSG] button. Type your message in the box and click "Send."

If you are having problems with Instant Messaging, you may need to update your browser. 

If you don't wish to receive messages, got to the main members page. Click on the Instant Message Control Center and change your status to AWAY.

A:   If you’re a financial supporter, you can send messages to any member who is online and not busy.

Q:  How do I send Instant messages?
A:  From the main member's page, click on either male or female to the right of  Who's Online Now.   Next find a member who you'd be interested in chatting with by clicking on View Profile next to their name in the list of members who are available for messaging.  Finally click on [MSG]. Type your message in the box and click the Send button. 

Note: Many problems you may have can be fixed by upgrading your web browser or by closing other programs that are running on your computer.

Q: I seem to miss some messages while I'm logged in. Why?
A. FIRST: Make sure you do not have any programs running that prohibit popup windows in your web browser. Instant Messages to you will be in the form of a pop-up window in your browser. If you have a program that keeps you from receiving pop-ups, you can not receive instant messages. Please turn off all external programs that might prohibit pop-ups.

Second: The easiest way to insure that you receive all your messages while logged in is to open the Instant Messaging Control Panel and keep it open. To do so return to the main members page, scroll down and click on the Instant Messaging Control button. Then, make sure you are Available to receive messages. (Remember, to become Available click Available. To become Away click Away. It is like a light switch.)

Q. I sent an Instant Message to someone and they never responded. Why?
A. Remember, that while someone is listed in the "Who is Online" list, they are logged in and available, but we don't know exactly what they might be doing at the time. They might be busy. They might have received a phone call or they may have simply over-looked your message. The best thing to do is be patient. If they do logout and fail to see your message, your message will be delivered to their mail box. 

We do remove names from the Who is Online list if the they have not done anything in the system within the last 10 minutes.

Q:  What personal information does Instant Messaging display?
A:   No private or confidential information will be displayed to the other party other than what you choose to reveal. You and the member you’re messaging will see each other’s ASCN username. You also can click on View Profile within the mail message to see that member’s profile

Q:  How do I change my availability status?
A:  You can set your availability by going into the Instant Messaging Control Panel and selecting AWAY.  This will make you disappear from the Who's Online Now list until you click AVAILABLE which located in the Instant Messaging Control Panel as well.  

Remember: The availability button is like a light switch. If you flip a light switch "ON" the light will go on. If you flip the switch "OFF" the light will go off. The same principle applies with our Away/Available button. To become "AWAY" click the AWAY button. To become AVAILABLE click the AVAILABLE button.

Q:  What steps can I take if someone is bothering me in Instant Messaging or Mail Messages?
A: We provide several ways for you to block any member from contacting you at any time:
  • Press the Block Member icon  while he or she is messaging you. All messages from this member will stop immediately.
  • Click Block within a Mail Message from the member you wish to block.
  • From the Main Member's Page click on Find One Ad and find the member that you are wishing to block and click the Block member button on their profile.

When you block someone:

  1. They will not know it.

  2. They will not be able to see you online.

  3. They will not be able to contact you either by Instant Messages or by Mail Messages

In other words: From the blocked members perspective, you will simply "disappear" from our membership files.
By clicking on the "Blocked List" link from the main members page, you can edit your block list and make notes to yourself about those on your list.

Be Careful:
We recommend that you check and go over your blocked list every once in a while to make sure you have not accidentally blocked someone that you would want to be able to contact you. The blocked list is a available from the main members page.

NOTE: If a member is currently messaging you and feel his or her behavior is severe, contact us and report them to Member support.

Q:  How Do I send mail messages?
A:  When you find a member that you want to send a mail message to, click on "Send a Message" in the bottom left corner of their profile. Type your message in the box and click "Send."

Q:  I got an e-mail from you saying that I had new mail, but when I logged in there wasn't any. What happened?
A:  We send e-mail notices at midnight each night to any member with un-read mail in their mail-box. If you login and that mail message is no longer there it means that person has chosen to delete that mail message or that member is no longer with us.

Mail is deleted any of these ways:

1. Any mail can be deleted by the sender if it has not been read.

2. The person receiving the mail can delete any and all mail in their mailbox.

3. Both sent and received mail is removed from the mailbox if a member cancels their membership.

4. All mail is removed after 21 days.

If someone sent you a mail message and the mail message is no longer in your box, click on Find One Ad from the main members page to see if that member is still here. If not, then the mail was removed when they left. If they are still here, then they deleted the message before you read it.
