I try to be a quiet, laid-back, easy-going guy, and I mostly like to just hang out. I'm usually in the lab or in front of a computer. I weigh 225lbs - too much fast food, not enough swimming! There is a wonderful gym right next to where I work so I'm out of excuses.
I have a PhD in Biophysics and I'm researching phosphoproteomics of pathogens using mass spectrometry. Most of my friends are other proteomics folks, and we generally just hang out and talk about proteomics (it's more fun than it sounds) . I moved to Virginia for a science job back in February. I have my own office! I must have fooled them into thinking that I'm an adult. It's a great job and I'm lucky to have gotten it. My last job was a temporary deal (three years max) and I was pretty worried until this one came through.
I'm a solid Republican but my two best friends from my last job were an ultra-lefty socialist from France and a dedicated communist from China. Both are proteomics/mass spectrometry science women, and both are atheists, despite my prayers. On two separate occasions though, when they opened up to me, I had a chance to witness to them (one-on-one) about Jesus, and they both cried and shared their beliefs, hopes, fears, etc. with me. Neither agreed to go to church with me though. The most important thing to me is devotion to faith.
