Describe a little of your personality and character traits. (Are you funny, laid back, more serious, open, shy, etc. ?)
Oh, good grief! Okay, here's the Laura-infomercial. . . I'm intelligent (second place on Jeopardy), entertaining (lots of stories, sometimes sarcastic, occasional potty humor--I have two boys, what can I say?), adventurous (in the "hike alone" and "start my own private education business" sense), intensely curious (some might even call it "nosy"), passionate (in every sense of the word), on fire (God is SO GOOOOOD!), creative (love decorating, finding unusual ways of teaching a concept), introspective (I'm always trying to grow in the Lord), and verbose. Describe your Christian faith. Where are you at and what are your goals? What Scripture verses are important to you?
I love the multiple choice answer "It defines who I am. " I was raised Catholic, but was always troubled by the fact that the church so flagrantly broke one of the Top Ten (um, Teacher, why do we light candles in front of a statue of Mary?). I floundered a LOT in high school, tried to be an atheist in college, got saved listening to Amy Grant on the freeway, and haven't looked back. I'm certainly not perfect. My pastor says he's the president of the Knuckleheads for Jesus club; I guess I'll settle for vice-president :0). My goals are to write and speak about my precious Lord who has been so good to me through some really cruddy circumstances. As for Scripture verses, I have plenty of favorites: Jer 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you. . . " Phil 4:8 "Whatever is true. . . think on these things. " Proverbs 31 (Oh for the chance to be valued above rubies and hear my children rise up and call me blessed!) Romans 8 and SOOOOO many more. Hope we can share some soon. What are your favorite activities? (Including sports, leisure, artistic/musical, etc. )
I LOVE singing in a choir (a need that is, sadly, not being met right now), doing crosswords, reading EVERYHING, hiking, teaching, writing, hanging out with my church family and family-family. I just took a couple of golf lessons, and would really like to try give it a try, but I don't have anyone to pursue it with. My curious and adventurous nature makes me pretty open to trying almost anything (within moral boundaries, of course!) which makes me a pretty flexible friend. Describe your current occupation. Do you like what you do? What is your dream job?
I teach math and science to homeschooled students. It's a wonderful job that utilizes my best gifts, and I'm deleriously happy that I don't have to deal with the public school system to do what I do best (I confess, I have "issues" with the system ;0)My dream job is writing childrens' science picture books (I've actually written one and I'm trying to find a publisher)and creating restaurant kids' menus to go with the books. Goofy, huh? A couple of years ago Denny's had an awesome kids menu based on National Geographic World magazine. Kentucky Fried Chicken has had Cranium Cadoo on their kids meal stuff. Unbelievable blend of entertainment and genuinely educational content. Boy is that a classic description of my quirky personality! Gaga over kids' menus. What a geek! What are some of your personal goals in life?
Get my sons to adulthood sane, Godly, and in one piece. Continue to develop and hone my talents in preparation for God opening doors for their greater use (teaching, writing, speaking). Coming alongside my soulmate and helping him realize all of his God-given potential.
