Dating and courtship between Christians should be characterized by: 1) Desire to communicate truth, 2) mutual respect, and 3) realistic expectations. Speaking the truth in love edifies your partner. Having mutual respect for each other guards against any misunderstandings or preconceived notions. I don't think it's wise to drag an unhealthy past into the present. Both partners should always strive to have an open mind and open heart in all conversations. And above of all, let the will of God bring everything else to pass!
